Discussion time! At what age should homosexuality be explained to a child?
My Answer:
It may not have to be. My niece was never told I was gay. But at 5 she assumed I must be “married” to my partner because of how we acted.
What do you think?

When they start school.

alwaysmore answered:
Telling them before school is absolutely necessary. You need to instill some kind of positive response in them for their LGBT peers.

I think kindergarten! Kids need to be growing up knowing what homosexuality is, and that it is OKAY! :)
-
lanacupcake answered:
it shouldn’t have to be explained, it can be observed as normally as heterosexuality

Heterosexuality is everywhere around kids; when is it too early for them to see/think/notice straight couples?

6 ? whatever age is old enough to explain love
-
thegatewaytofreedom answered:
when they ask about it. i think they should be allowed to discover it on their own then ask questions. age doesnt really matter only exposure
-
littlewitch72 answered:
as soon as they are able to understand it, as with heterosexual relationships.

I think the appropriate age depends on the child and the circumstances. If a child asks a question- give an honest answer.

Adolescence maybe. It’s a stage of one’s self-discovery. Most homo’s found out their sexuality during this stage.

it should be explained when they begin to question it and when they’re developing the gender norms.

passiveenthusiast answered:
I always just kind of figured my kids would be raised around my friends of all sexual orientations, so I guess they’d just know? Not sure.

I agree, I think the fact that two men or two women can love each other should be explained to children at a young age. Sex-ed can come later

My mom started dating women when I was about 6 or 7… so homosexuality was explained to me very early in life…

Doesn’t matter, really. Telling a child “those two men/women love each other” is just the same as “your mommy and daddy love each other”.
-
duckmagnet answered:
I think it should be explained at the same time as relationships and love between “mummy and daddy” is taught.

Parents should teach children about love — in all its forms — as early and as often as possible.

I also hate the term “homosexuality.” I’d teach my 6 year old child (unless they asked earlier) that some people love men, women or both
-

i don’t really think there’s a specific age. it just depends when they see it or when they ask about it.

it should be said that there is homosexuality in 7th grade, explained in general in 8th (like the basics), and then taught in high school.
-
silverstetho answered:
the same age when “the talk” comes around, a little before puberty or at the start
