Discussion time! At what age should homosexuality be explained to a child?

My Answer:

It may not have to be. My niece was never told I was gay. But at 5 she assumed I must be “married” to my partner because of how we acted.

What do you think?

  1. zmccaleb answered: When they start school.
  2. alwaysmore answered: Telling them before school is absolutely necessary. You need to instill some kind of positive response in them for their LGBT peers.
  3. loveknowsnobounds answered: I think kindergarten! Kids need to be growing up knowing what homosexuality is, and that it is OKAY! :)
  4. lanacupcake answered: it shouldn’t have to be explained, it can be observed as normally as heterosexuality
  5. jennyfurrmessing answered: the same time of the birds and bees talk if not earlier.
  6. kyubino answered: Heterosexuality is everywhere around kids; when is it too early for them to see/think/notice straight couples?
  7. bookoflonging answered: 6 ? whatever age is old enough to explain love
  8. thegatewaytofreedom answered: when they ask about it. i think they should be allowed to discover it on their own then ask questions. age doesnt really matter only exposure
  9. littlewitch72 answered: as soon as they are able to understand it, as with heterosexual relationships.
  10. keepingkristy answered: I think the appropriate age depends on the child and the circumstances. If a child asks a question- give an honest answer.
  11. mynameislyddy answered: same age heterosexuality is. XD
  12. iliveonforfreedom answered: 15 years old ?
  13. bloodiedangel answered: ‘people love other people a lot of the time.’ simple.
  14. alexander51 answered: Whenever they ask
  15. ketchupwithoutfries answered: Adolescence maybe. It’s a stage of one’s self-discovery. Most homo’s found out their sexuality during this stage.
  16. discojunky answered: When they ask
  17. layitontaylor answered: 10
  18. ejzgqueerfairy answered: when it comes up in conversation. Teach as situations arise.
  19. radicaltigger answered: whenever it comes up. My parents never really explained to me because they have gay friends. When they are little.
  20. stephislife answered: the age when you have the sex talk
  21. gayglitterati answered: it should be explained when they begin to question it and when they’re developing the gender norms.
  22. passiveenthusiast answered: I always just kind of figured my kids would be raised around my friends of all sexual orientations, so I guess they’d just know? Not sure.
  23. partyandahalf answered: if you’re just talking about same sex love….kindergarden start early
  24. meangirlsreference answered: Whenever it comes up.
  25. laviedela answered: My answer; laviedela.tumblr.com/po…

homosexual relationships...the same way heterosexual are. There isn’t
  27. pianoplayer44 answered: When the child is young-they’re more understanding at a young age.
  28. nboothster answered: im a republican
  29. thirdworldcountry answered: 5
  30. zachmor answered: I agree, I think the fact that two men or two women can love each other should be explained to children at a young age. Sex-ed can come later
  31. fragile-wisp answered: My mom started dating women when I was about 6 or 7… so homosexuality was explained to me very early in life…
  32. excitabletortoise answered: Doesn’t matter, really. Telling a child “those two men/women love each other” is just the same as “your mommy and daddy love each other”.
  33. duckmagnet answered: I think it should be explained at the same time as relationships and love between “mummy and daddy” is taught.
  34. awkwardscorpion answered: Parents should teach children about love — in all its forms — as early and as often as possible.
  35. theshelbylife answered: It shouldn
  36. ivegotnotoleranceforignorance answered: The moment they can understand you.
  37. rholdphoto answered: when they can begin to understand what it is
  38. christineleem answered: I also hate the term “homosexuality.” I’d teach my 6 year old child (unless they asked earlier) that some people love men, women or both
  39. jenara-shepard answered: i don’t really think there’s a specific age. it just depends when they see it or when they ask about it.
  40. theatrekidkyle answered: it should be said that there is homosexuality in 7th grade, explained in general in 8th (like the basics), and then taught in high school.
  41. silverstetho answered: the same age when “the talk” comes around, a little before puberty or at the start
